About Me

I grew up under the redwood trees of Northern California.  I currently make ceramics in New York City.  The first time I touched clay, I noticed two things about it.  First, that it was extremely fun, and second that working with it seemed somehow primordial.  It conjured up the ancient human urge to create shape and pattern, to imprint, to draw, scratch, carve.  It reminded me of my four year old self gleefully at play, while at the same time always demanding more skill, more technical knowledge, and more practice.  Fire can be a cruel task master one day and an absolving angel the next.  She has a funny way of ruining most of your efforts, then bestowing some beautiful gift that you could never have dreamed up yourself. That is the fun and the mystery of it.
